Why I'm Running

Hi, I'm Jim Kennedy and I'm running for reelection to the St. Petersburg City Council in District 2. St. Pete has been my home for more than 30 years and I am asking you to stand with me to move St. Petersburg forward together.

I have the experience to move St. Petersburg forward.

Creating an adequate mass transportation system, keeping the Rays in St. Pete, attracting good jobs to our city, and ensuring all of our neighborhoods are safe are just some of the serious challenges facing St. Petersburg and we need serious people to solve them.

As a Councilperson, I have led the city’s efforts to improve our transportation system so that we can meet the demands of our growing region. Serving as Chair of the Pinellas Planning Council, on the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and on the PSTA’s Advisory Committee on Public Transportation, I am working to make regional mass transit a reality. I have served as City Council Chair and as Chair of the Budget, Finance, and Taxation Committees as well as the Investment Oversight Committee to ensure our city remains fiscally responsible. As Chair of the EMS Committee, I have fought to protect St. Pete residents by ensuring quick response times.

In our community I’ve served as Education Chair of Community Alliance and as President and Treasurer of CASA because I understand that we cannot move forward as a community if we do not protect our most vulnerable.

I have done all of this with a steadfast belief that local government matters. Building a strong community matters. Working to make our city a better place to live matters. This has been my charge since being appointed to City Council in 2007.

I endeavor to keep working for you. I understand, as I know you do, that this is not a job that can be done alone. Improving our community requires all of our work and dedication. That is why I am humbly asking you to join my campaign.

I love St. Petersburg. I have raised my family here and have practiced law for 30 years here. I have served the community for over three decades and would like to continue a little longer. I hope you will help me keep doing this job that I love.

Jim Kennedy
